While porn aficionados should be grateful in seeing our dirty movie heritage preserved in the digital format, sometimes it is more painful to see a long-forgotten favorite being treated in a manner which borders on contempt. While DVD companies like NuTech and VCA are breathing new digital life into some seventies and eighties classics (such as BARBARA BROADCAST, NEW WAVE HOOKERS, THE MISTRESS), we also have disappointing products from Caballero DVD, VCX, Taboo Entertainment and now Classic X Collection. I thought that I had seen the worst of the worst after revisiting mistreated classics like GIRLS ON FIRE, TABOO and DOCTOR GINGER IS PRETTY AS YOU FEEL, but SPERM BUSTERS manages to reach a new low in overall quality with this release. The picture transfer is below that of my original VHS copy, which I managed to scrounge up in my old videotape collection for comparison, which suggests that this DVD was mastered from a bad master source, or from a multi-generation copy. The sound is passable, if a bit echo-ey but that is the fault of the original production. For all you fans of eighties pop music, there is a sound-alike instrumental of Glenn Frey's "The Heat Is On" which plays at the end of the disc (I know that's nothing special, but I have to find something notable about this disc!). There are no extras in which to access because there is no menu available. Other than the search buttons, there is no way to access a particular scene conveniently because we are only given two arbitrary chapters points on the disc. Technical problems aside, there is still something to be salvaged from this cheaply made movie. The incredibly cute Heather Wayne gets it on with Peter North in a hot little encounter which is generally run-of-the-porn mill, but I still enjoyed it anyway. Incidentally, Heather Wayne resembles a more slender and less busty Traci Lords (more on her later), and her visual appeal alone almost makes up for the other nondescript scenes found in SPERM BUSTERS. But if you are buying this video to add to your Ginger Lynn collection, be warned that her scenes are lifted directly from PRETTY AS YOU FEEL, which is also available on the Taboo Entertainment line of DVDs. Besides a masturbation and girl-girl scene (interrupted by an outdoor round robin of different couples and threesomes bumping and grinding, including classic actresses like Raven), Ginger shares a one-on-one with Mr. Extreme himself, Tom Byron. Her cocksucking close-ups are almost worth forgiving this video for the rest of its shortcomings. Who can resist seeing Ginger's deep blue eyes light up while her throat is being gorged by a hard-on? For the record, I compared the video quality of this excerpt with the same scene from the Taboo disc, and it was clear that Classic X transfer was not that much worse. So if you're looking for a better image of Ginger Lynn from PRETTY AS YOU FEEL, you can go with either title and not lose (or gain) much. Cara Lott and Tiffany Blake take a nice long shower together before the requisite muff-diving, but it's nothing that hasn't been done a million times over and million times better. The action gets a little bit better, believe it or not, when a younger, thinner (but still mighty plump) Hedgehog joins them in bed for a not-too-shabby three-way. There are plenty of pussy-to-mouth fellatio scenes to enjoy, and although none of the performers are as visually appealing as one might hope, this is still a repeatable threesome. The only truly original scene in this compilation comes at the end when all the participants (sans Ginger Lynn) get together for an orgy, which is uninspired and boring. The camera never seems to get an ideal angle of the participants, so we end up watching the backs of a lot of women as they ride their partners cowgirl style. As much as I enjoy watching long-forgotten actresses like Heather Wayne and Jessica Long get boinked once again for my viewing pleasure, it is not enough to save the production. The video ends on a less-than comical note when the "Sperm Busters" (who have been surveying the proceedings from outside) burst into the room and spray down the place with "Cheese Off" and "Spode Plus" (???). What then follows is a few snippets of outtakes and the puzzling sight of three guys fumigating the room, which doesn't add anything to the movie at all. I guess they had to find someway to introduce the novelty of Sperm Busting, but the scene is more awkward than interesting. However, I must point out that from a collector's point of view, this disc has merit because we are given a very brief (I'm talking a few milliseconds) excerpt of Traci Lords getting a facial (courtesy of Tom Byron) from her long out of print video, TRACI'S SEX SHOOT. I recall watching this movie one night at the apartment of a friend of my distant step-cousin's relative who used to have own this videocassette before a kitchen grease fire burned his entire video collection and completely destroyed any evidence of this tape. This was one of my favorite scenes with the once under-legal age actress, and although it is difficult to identify her in this split-second shot, trust me, it's her. The story is basic - Jerry Butler is an escaped convict stranded on a deserted island with a gaggle of chicks.
